This statement is to simply affirm: Justice for everyone is the only way for justice to be realized for anyone.
The past months of the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent days of anguished protesting have brought more awareness to more (white) people regarding the devastating impacts of systemic racism. Even though I have worked, as a white person in the United States, to understand interlocking systems of unearned advantaging and disadvantaging, our current circumstances are teaching me anew.
My action commitment today is to practice fierce listening – with the intention to understand more deeply – and then to follow the lead of people of color because they have generations of hard-earned wisdom to share.
